They’re back! Less than two years after closing, dim sum resto Hung Sum reopens

It’s the (re)opening that dim sum lovers have been waiting for all summer. In mid-July, Hung Sum’s Facebook page lit up with ecstatic commentary after the owners posted an image of fireworks lighting up the sky, along with the news that they’d found a new space.

The second incarnation of Hung Sum (located at 939 Somerset St. W. at Preston) opened its doors a month later on August 18, posting a decadent menu of 50+ dim sum favourites.

With the closure of a couple of dim sum places lately (including, most recently, Fortune Express in Kanata) the reopening of Hung Sum is timely news. In a 2015 review for Ottawa Magazine, restaurant critic Anne DesBrisay commented on the freshness of everything on the Hung Sum menu, the dishes served steaming hot as they were made — “juicy little affordable bites, served by hard-working people in a hard-working room.”

Welcome back.

Most dishes range from $3.75-$5.65. Cash and debit.
